Frequently asked questions

Is the Spain invoice generator free?

Yes. Banana Invoice is 100% free for Spain — create, customise and download professional invoices in Euro (EUR) as a PDF with no signup, no watermark and no fees.

What tax do I charge on an invoice in Spain?

Spain uses VAT (IVA — Impuesto sobre el Valor Añadido), with a standard rate of 21%. You add the tax as a separate line on the invoice and show your NIF-IVA / CIF where required. The Agencia Tributaria (AEAT) administers it.

What must a Spain invoice include?

A compliant Spain invoice should show your NIF-IVA / CIF, a unique invoice number and date, the buyer's details, a description of goods or services, the tax rate and amount, and the total payable in EUR.

Do I need a NIF-IVA / CIF to send an invoice in Spain?

If you are registered for VAT you must show your NIF-IVA / CIF on the invoice. Unregistered freelancers and small businesses can still send a simple invoice without charging tax.
