A professional invoice isn't complicated, but leaving out a key detail can delay payment or make the invoice invalid. Here are the nine elements every invoice should include, in the order they usually appear.

The 9 things every invoice needs

1. The word "Invoice" so there's no doubt what the document is (use "Tax Invoice" if you're tax-registered).
2. Your business details name, address, email, phone, and logo.
3. Your client's details name, company, and billing address.
4. A unique invoice number sequential, e.g. INV-2026-0001 (use a invoice number generator).
5. Issue date and due date when it was sent and when payment is due.
6. An itemized list description, quantity, and rate for each product or service.
7. Subtotal, tax, and total the net amount, any VAT/GST/sales tax, and the grand total due.
8. Payment terms and methods e.g. "Net 30", plus bank or payment-link details.
9. Notes a thank-you, late-fee policy, or PO reference if needed.

What about tax details?
